Multiculturalism in definition: is the cultural diversity of communities and the policies that promote this diversity. Multiculturalism is the simple fact of cultural diversity and the demographic make-up of a specific place, sometimes at the organizational level like: schools, businesses, neighborhoods, cities, or nations. As a prescriptive term, multiculturalism encourages ideologies and policies that promote this diversity or its institutionalization.
Even though we were supposed to write a blog post about a movie we saw: Breakfast-Club, I`ve decided to write a blog post from my own experience about how it feels to move to a foreign country. It all depends on how old you are when you move from your country. I think it is easier to move when you are a kid, maybe between the age(s) of 8-12. I was 12 years old and it was just in time, since I was able to finish 7th grade here in Norway, and I got friends before Middle-School. Facing cultural- differences might be difficult. Of course, it is much easier to move to for example Norway when you`re from Europe. But imagine how hard it must be to face a completely different culture, and move to China or India. I think both sides, a Norwegian, or an Indian teenager would be shocked by the differences.
People have to learn a new language, culture, but also try to become a part of the society. It is not always easy. People are different, some of them find learning a new language easy, and some not. Not all of them, who move out actually wanted to move and it is easy to notice the difference.
The best advice I would give to people who are planning to move to a foreign country, it is trying to adapt as much as possible, and realize that everything becomes easier when you`re able to speak the language.
How do you think it is to move to a foreign country?
